Modern Love Special Projects Editor Miya Lee will offer behind-the-scenes insights and answer most-asked questions alongside four Seattle-based Modern Love essayists. Each writer will read an excerpt from their columns and share advice. Get practical tips for writing a unique story that connects with a wide audience, plus find out what makes an essay rise to the top of the slush pile.

Moderator:

Miya Matsumoto Lee is the editor of Modern Love projects at the New York Times. In this role, Miya evaluates submissions to Modern Love, selects and edits Tiny Love Stories, and works on the column's various projects—spanning from podcasts to TV to her and Dan Jones' Tiny Love Stories Book.

Nicole Hardy is the author of two poetry collections and the memoir Confessions of a Latter-Day Virgin. She’s best known for her Modern Love essay “Single, Female, Mormon, Alone,” later featured on the podcast and noted in Best American Essays 2012. She earned an MFA from Bennington College.

Nicole Comforto is an award-winning comedy writer and New York Times Modern Love essayist. Her first novel, co-written with her husband, was a finalist in the 2022 Launch Pad Prose competition and top ten comedy manuscript on Coverfly. She lives in Seattle.
