F231. CANCELLED: Voice Is Dead: Or, How to Get to the Future of Poetry

Status: Not Accepted

Room 214A, Henry B. González Convention Center, Meeting Room Level
Friday, March 6, 2020
1:45 pm to 3:00 pm

In poet as compulsive confessor, poem's vessel, magician conjuring illusory speakers, or paradoxical ally to human-decentering tech—voice flickers, flares, persists. Climate change and drone warfare whisper over us, a wall to divide continents clangs, drug-resistant germs sweep the globe in subsonic secrecy. What's the value of a warning cry? Is voice now gratuitous, hilarious, irresponsible, a mirage, or essential to the maintenance of a human record, saving grace, or literal last gasp.
