This panel will explore how publishers, and to some extent authors, can maximize the sales and availability of their titles at some of the world's largest online booksellers. The focus will be on understanding how that particular market functions and what its special limitations are.


Brent Cunningham is the operations director for Small Press Distribution, where he has worked since 1999. Along with SPD’s other directors, he has helped nearly double sales at the organization over the past decade. He is the author of two books of poetry, Journey to the Sun and Bird & Forest.

Julie Schaper is president of Consortium Book Sales & Distribution, a distributor for independent publishers located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She has worked for Consortium for over twenty years.

Marie Gauthier is the author of a chapbook (Hunger All Inside); her poems have appeared in The Common, Poetry Northwest, and elsewhere. A 2008 Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Prize recipient, she serves as director of sales and marketing for Tupelo Press, and she runs the Collected Poets Series.

Janice Worthen is the sales and marketing manager for Small Press Distribution, an associate for Apogee Press, a freelance writer, and the editor of Night Music. She received her BA from the University of Idaho and her MFA from the University of San Francisco.
