Meet the AWP Staff

David FenzaDavid Fenza, Executive Director
David Fenza joined the staff as Publications Manager in 1988, when he began to engineer the remaking of AWP Newsletter into the Writer's Chronicle. A graduate of the writing programs at Johns Hopkins University & the University of Iowa, Fenza also earned a master's degree in public administration from the Harvard Kennedy School. He has served on the boards of Share Our Strength & the Fall for the Book Literary Festival. He is the author of a book-length poem, The Interlude. After becoming Executive Director of AWP in 1995, Fenza initiated many of the changes in governance & programming to accommodate the four-fold growth in the number of writers, teachers, students, & publishers who benefit from AWP's projects & services.

 

Supriya BhatnagarSupriya Bhatnagar, Director of Publications
Supriya Bhatnagar has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, India, & a BA in Nonfiction Writing & Editing & an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from George Mason University. Her short stories have appeared in Femina & 4Indianwoman.com. Her memoir & then there were three... was published in 2010 by Serving House Books. Essays from this book have appeared in Perigee & forthcoming in Artful Dodge.

 

Matt Blakley Matt Blakley, Membership Services Assistant
Matt Blakley is an MFA candidate in poetry at George Mason University.  He received a BA in English from the University of Mary Washington in 2011.

 

Jennifer BrownJennifer Brown, Membership Services Assistant
Jennifer Brown is an MFA candidate in fiction at George Mason University where she received the 2011 Mary Roberts Rinehart Award for Creative Nonfiction.  Jennifer holds a B. A. in theater from Columbia College, and a J. D. from Tulane Law School.  She has worked as a trial attorney at the Department of Justice and as Editor of Tax Notes, the top tax journal in the country.  Her fiction has appeared in The Antigonish Review.

 

Daniel D'AngeloDaniel D'Angelo, Publications Assistant
Daniel D'Angelo is an MFA candidate in poetry at George Mason University. He holds a B.A. in Journalism & Mass Communication & in Asian Languages & Literature from the University of Iowa. He is Poetry Editor of Phoebe: A Journal of Literature & Art & he joined AWP in the summer of 2010 as a Membership Services Assistant. He grew up in Bettendorf, Iowa.

 

Erica DolsonErica Dolson, Membership Services Assistant
Erica Dolson is a first-year nonfiction student in George Mason University's MFA program. Prior to entering her graduate program, she worked as a reporting fellow at The Patriot-News (Harrisburg) and The Sentinel (Carlisle) in Pennsylvania, where she received a 2010 Pennsylvania Newspaper Association Keystone Award for her piece "Novel Ideas: High Schools Diversify their Literature." She earned her bachelor's degree from Villanova University, where she majored in communication, minored in French, and earned a Concentration in Writing and Rhetoric.

 

Will FawleyWill Fawley, Conference Assistant
Will Fawley is an MFA in Fiction candidate at George Mason University where is is also Assistant Fiction Editor for Phoebe: A Journal of Literature and Art. He holds a BA in English from James Madison University and is originally from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. He began working at AWP in 2010.

 

Sara FloodSara Flood, Associate Editor
Sara Flood is an MFA candidate in fiction at George Mason University. Originally from Wisconsin, she received a BA in English (Creative Writing) & Interdisciplinary Visual Art from the University of Washington, & she worked in Seattle as a graphic artist for five years.

 

Liz GerberLiz Gerber, Assistant Editor
Liz Gerber moved to Virginia in 2003 and hasn't left since. She has worked and volunteered throughout the state for several non-profit organizations, and she completed her BA in English at the University of Mary Washington in 2007. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Poetry at George Mason University and is also an intern at the Poetry & Literature Center in the Library of Congress. Her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in the Crab Orchard Review, The Greensboro Review, and Spoon River Poetry Review, among others. She started at AWP as a Publications Intern in April 2009.

 

Alana Hurley, Bookfair & Exhibits Manager
Alana Hurley joined AWP in 2012. She received her MA from George Mason University and her BA from Marymount University. Previously, she worked as a contractor for the Department of State's Foreign Service Institute. She also volunteers as an adult literacy tutor with the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia.

 

Anne LeAnne Le, Conference Coordinator
Anne Le is from Northern Virginia & holds an MFA in Poetry from George Mason University. She began her first day with AWP in the Fall of 2008 & has been with Conference Services ever since.

 

Kate McDevittKate McDevitt, Webmaster/Administrator
Kate McDevitt received her BS in Computer Science (with minors in Creative Writing: fiction & Mathematics) from Virginia Tech in 2002. Also at Virginia Tech, she worked on her MS in Computer Science (concentration: human-computer interaction). She has done internet & intranet design & development for many educational, governmental, & commercial organizations. Kate joined AWP in late June of 2006.

 

 Matthew Oglesby Matthew Oglesby, Career Services Assistant
Matthew Oglesby is an MFA candidate in fiction at George Mason University.  He received a BS in English from Florida State University in 2010.

 

Roberto PeralesRoberto Perales, Accounting Manager
Roberto Perales was born in the land of the Incas (Peru) where he studied Computer Systems Engineering at Saint Martin University. He moved to Northern Virginia in 2002 where he worked in the hospitality industry for eight years in various positions. He joined the corporate world as an Accounting Manager four years ago. To continue his education in the accounting field, he graduated from Northern Virginia Community College & is now pursuing a bachelor's degree from George Mason University.

 

Christian TeresiChristian Teresi, Director of Conferences
Christian Teresi's poems & interviews have appeared in several literary journals including The American Poetry Review, the Kenyon Review Online, the Notre Dame Review, and Sou'wester. He holds an MFA from George Mason University & a BA from Binghamton University.

 

Amber WithycombeAmber Withycombe, Director of Development
Amber Withycombe joined AWP in 2011. She was previously assistant director of Black Mountain Institute at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas & editor of the literary magazine Witness. A native of Northern California, she has a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley & worked as an art director & a graphic design instructor in San Francisco before earning an MFA in nonfiction from the University of Iowa. There, she was managing editor of The Iowa Review & a graphic designer for the Office of University Relations.

 

Diane ZinnaDiane Zinna, Director of Membership Services
Diane Zinna joined AWP in October of 2011.  She received her MFA in Fiction from the University of Florida in 1998 and went on to teach part-time at various Washington, DC-area colleges. Diane worked for American Red Cross disaster relief for twelve years but always made time to write. She has had stories in Evolution, The Northern Virginia Review, and at Eclectica.org.

 

Ronald GoldfarbRonald Goldfarb, Legal Counsel
Ronald Goldfarb is a lawyer, author, & literary agent based in Washington, DC. His firm specializes is legal matters pertaining to writers & publishing. The General Counsel of AWP, he is the author of ten nonfiction books, including Perfect Villains, Imperfect Heroes: Robert F. Kennedy's War Against Organized Crime. He served in the Justice Department of the Kennedy Administration from 1961 to 1964.
